Costa Navarino, the sustainably driven destination in Messinia, in the southwest Peloponnese, steps into 2026 with a powerful narrative rooted in Homeric legacy.
The destination —home to luxury resorts, private residences, sports and leisure activities, and a wealth of authentic cultural experiences— conveys the essence of Greek hospitality and the ancient concept of ‘philoxenia’, a virtue traced directly back to Homer’s epic. After all, just steps away, the Palace of King Nestor and the famous Voidokilia beach, are connected to the first written account of hospitality in the Western world.
Next year, inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, Costa Navarino introduces a series of curated immersive, multigenerational experiences across The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort , W Costa Navarino and its Villa Rental Collection. Rooted in mythology, local culture, and authentic hospitality, these experiences invite guests to feel part of the region’s storied past.
The new experiences not only tap into the ‘set jetter’ trend— whereby travelers discover filming locations around the world but they also reflect a growing interest in holidays connected to on-screen historical and mythological heroes. They are seeking hands-on historical exploration, reflecting a desire for meaningful engagement with culture and heritage.
Highlights include:
‘The Messinian Odyssey Trail’
An interactive, six-stop adventure through myth and history, culminating in the crowning of one participant as “King or Queen for a Day.” The bespoke trail takes participants through some of the area’s most important sites —including the Palace of Nestor, where guests can uncover hidden treasures while solving riddles. Additional locations include the Pylos Archaeological Museum, Voidokilia Beach —said to be shaped by the gods—and Nestor’s Cave. This is a unique trail where guests can trace the footsteps of epic heroes while discovering the landscapes and stories that inspired the world’s first great tale.
A Philosophy Walk in the ‘Echoes of Odyssey’
Held at Navarino Dunes and led by a Professor of Ancient Greek Literature, this walk invites guests to explore timeless ethical dilemmas, heroism, and the journey of Nostos(homecoming). Set against the Messinian countryside, participants engage in thoughtful dialogue and explore universal themes embodied in the Odyssey and its relevance to modern life.
‘Odyssean Journey’ Signature Spa Ritual
A restorative treatment blends a mythic narrative with holistic wellness. The signature ritual includes sea-salt exfoliation, clay and rosemary cocooning, scalp treatment and a flowing candle massage using warm lavender and sandalwood to calm the nervous system and ease muscle tension.
‘Find your Greek Hero’
Taking place at the Sandcastle at Navarino Dunes, children 4 to 12 years old can engage with hands-on activities, decoding heroism and mythological stories through playful interactive exploration. Young guests get a stamp for completing different activities themed around Greek heroes such as Odysseus for creativity, Heracles for bravery and Theseus for intelligence.
‘Penelope’s Heritage’ Weaving Workshop
Guests honor the craft of Penelope, the enduring symbol of loyalty, resilience, and quiet strength in The Odyssey. Known for weaving by day and secretly unweaving her work each night to fend off suitors until Odysseus’ return, Penelope embodies patience, intelligence, and creative defiance. This workshop introduces guests to traditional local weaving techniques, blending cultural heritage with hands-on creative expression.
Additional experiences —exclusive to Costa Navarino guests— will transform the legendary landscapes of Messinia into a live setting. Visitors are invited to bring the Odyssey to life, reconnecting with its timeless values of hospitality, heroism, and homecoming.
