Tintswalo Collection Offers Two Distinct Safari Retreats for Families, Friends, and Couples in South Africa
Tintswalo Manor House and Tintswalo Waterberg combine Big Five wildlife encounters, personalized hospitality, and overnight experiences under the African stars.
The Tintswalo Collection invites travelers to explore two distinct safari retreats in South Africa: Tintswalo Manor House, an exclusive-use lodge in the Greater Kruger ecosystem, and Tintswalo Waterberg, a family-friendly lodge in the malaria-free Welgevonden Game Reserve. From private safaris tailored to a single group to romantic stays with secluded plunge pools, both properties offer opportunities to reconnect with nature and spend time with loved ones.
With twice-daily guided game drives, children’s programs, South African cuisine, and open-air overnight experiences, the two lodges cater to multigenerational families, groups of friends, and couples seeking an immersive wilderness escape.
Tintswalo Manor House: A Private Safari Retreat in the Greater Kruger

Set within the approximately 66,700-acre Manyeleti Game Reserve, Tintswalo Manor House accommodates up to 10 guests on an exclusive-use basis. The reserve shares unfenced boundaries with the neighboring Timbavati and Sabi Sand reserves and forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park ecosystem, allowing wildlife to move freely across the landscape.
Tintswalo Safari, which includes the Manor House, is one of only four commercial lodges permitted in the reserve, offering guests a sense of seclusion. Manyeleti is known for regular sightings of the Big Five—lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo—as well as antelope, other predators, and more than 300 bird species.
Designed in a traditional safari style, the Manor House features five spacious bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. Shared living and dining areas open onto shaded patios for outdoor meals and leisurely afternoons. A lawn-surrounded swimming pool offers a place to cool off, while a thatched outdoor bar and lounge overlook a waterhole frequented by elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife. Wildlife fencing encloses the grounds.
The fully catered experience includes a personal chef, housekeeping staff, and a dedicated game ranger with a private safari vehicle. Twice-daily game drives are tailored to the group’s interests, making the property especially suited to families, friends, and corporate retreats seeking privacy and flexibility.
Children of all ages are welcome, with customized programs that include ranger-led tracking adventures, paintball shooting, baking with the chef, and making beaded jewelry. Meals are served on the terrace and outdoors, from breakfasts cooked over open flames to dinners around a boma fire beneath the stars.
The Manor House also offers a treehouse sleepout beneath the canopy of a weeping boer bean tree. At dusk, the space becomes an open-air retreat with a king-size bed, soft linens, mosquito netting, lanterns, and comfortable chairs. Guests have access to modern amenities and bathroom facilities within the fenced Manor House grounds.
Tintswalo Manor House is a short drive from Hoedspruit Airport and about a six-hour drive or shuttle ride from Johannesburg. Rates include all meals, house beverages, daily laundry, and safari activities.
Tintswalo Waterberg: Family Adventures and Romantic Escapes

Located just under a three-hour drive from Johannesburg, Tintswalo Waterberg offers an accessible wilderness escape in Limpopo’s malaria-free Welgevonden Game Reserve. The lodge accommodates up to 16 guests in five private suites, comprising two one-bedroom units, one two-bedroom unit, and two three-bedroom units on either side of the main lodge.
Accommodations feature mosquito nets, air conditioning, ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, and fireplaces, with outdoor showers in select units. The new Owl Honeymoon Suite combines a spacious bedroom and open-plan living area with sweeping reserve views. A private deck with a secluded plunge pool and a cozy indoor fireplace creates inviting spaces to unwind between safari outings.
Couples can also spend a night on the Stargazing Sleepout Deck, a secluded open-air platform overlooking a waterhole. Furnished with a king-size bed, mosquito netting, and lanterns, the deck offers an overnight experience under the African stars. It is complimentary for honeymooners and available to other guests for an additional fee.
Designed with families in mind, the lodge is fenced to help keep predators and larger wildlife outside the grounds. A children’s program offers educational and interactive activities, while the main lodge provides a welcoming gathering place with a lounge, open-plan dining room, bar, and large fireplaces. An expansive wooden deck features outdoor dining, reserve views, and a swimming pool with lounge chairs.
All-inclusive dining features house drinks and freshly prepared, slow-cooked South African dishes served family-style. Boma dinners beneath the stars bring guests together over meals accompanied by the sounds of the surrounding wilderness.
Welgevonden Game Reserve spans approximately 89,000 acres and is home to the Big Five, more than 50 mammal species, and 300 bird species. Expert rangers lead twice-daily game drives in open safari vehicles, sharing insights into the wildlife and the wider ecosystem.
For guests seeking a closer look at the landscape, two-hour guided bush walks offer opportunities to learn animal tracking, identify plants, and explore on foot. Walks are available for an additional fee to guests aged 16 and older. Late-night game drives, also available for an additional fee, offer the chance to encounter nocturnal wildlife such as leopards, aardvarks, porcupines, owls, and the elusive pangolin. These outings include refreshments and time for stargazing away from city lights.
Whether travelers choose the privacy of Tintswalo Manor House or the family-friendly hospitality and romantic accommodations of Tintswalo Waterberg, both properties offer a personal connection to South Africa’s wildlife and wilderness.
