FRANCE

The Paris Olympics may be over, but there’s still plenty to discover outside the City of Lights. France is always en vogue and here’s a few reasons why…

A Provençal Oasis for Cycling, Sightseeing, and Sipping Wine

Coquillade, Provence

Why Coquillade: A countryside celebration of all things Provençal (including Coquillade’s own vintage). NEW! Five opulent suites debuted in July 2024.

Coquillade, a Relais & Châteaux property celebrated for its unparalleled location in the Luberon, amidst lavender fields and vineyards, recently enhanced its allure with five, new opulent suites, complete with bespoke spa treatments and personalized services. The new suites form the perfect trifecta of accommodations at the 69-room “destination within a destination” that is Coquillade Provence.

Launched in 2008 by Swiss visionary Andy Rihs, the resort has earned global recognition as a premier destination for discerning travelers. Coquillade Provence is home to three restaurants, bars and lounges, three swimming pools including a family pool, a short-course Olympic-sized lap pool and an indoor pool, its own cycling center with BMC bikes, and a spa featuring Tata Harper and Nescens skin care. Guests also enjoy local herbal and vinotherapy treatments and a tea lounge, hair salon; plus a cigar room, library, meeting and event spaces, an amphitheater, and an evolving private art collection.

Coquillade’s new, top-tier suites, ranging in size from 645 square feet to 1,614 square feet, are in a separate wing of the Relais & Châteaux property with its own private entrance as well as direct access to the resort’s spa—inviting guests to customize their well-being programming. Staying true to Coquillade’s pillars of culture, consciousness and community, the design team utilized antique selections curated from centuries-old shops in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a European antiques capital.

Named after a nymph—Cyrène, Ida, Elysia, Daphné, and Cassiopée—each suite tells its own enchanting story, adding a touch of mythical charm to the stay.

A Literary Landmark Where You Can Party Like It’s the Jazz Age

Hôtel Belles Rives

Trends: Literary travel. Michelin-star dining. Water skiing!

Calling all literary aficionados… Put down your book and head to Cap d’Antibes, France. 2025 marks 100 years since F. Scott Fitzgerald arrived in Antibes and began to pen the novel Tender is the Night at what is now Hôtel Belles Rives.

An Art Deco gem with one Michelin Key, Hôtel Belles Rives is a testament to the breezy extravagance of a bygone era, yet reveals a modern design, offering 43 recently renovated rooms and suites. Hôtel Belles Rives also boasts a Michelin-star restaurant, La Passagère, led by culinary maestro, Aurélien Véquaud. And for those, like Fitzgerald, who are drawn to the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean, the hotel’s private beach features a Water Sports Club with its own Water Ski Butler and the jetty that’s home to the hotel’s private boat dock—Cap d’Antibes was the original birthplace of water skiing!

If It Was Good Enough for Marie Antoinette, You’ll Check It Out

Les Lumières Versailles

NEW! Opened on July 15, 2024.

Trend: Versailles isn’t just a day trip anymore. It’s becoming an actual destination, not just for day trip and tours of the palace. And now there’s a spectacular place to stay—Les Lumières is located just next door to the palace.

Safe, quaint, and only a 30-min train or Uber ride away from Paris’s city center, what used to be a day trip destination is becoming a France itinerary staple. Overlooking the gates of the palace is the city’s newest hotel—Les Lumières Versailles—which pays homage to the Age of Enlightenment with 31-rooms named after the period’s philosophers and authors. It also features Café Pierre Hermé Paris, Hermé’s first brasserie in a hotel for breakfast and lunch and a sweets-shop to bring his desserts back home. A subterranean spa hosts Brad Pitt’s Beau Domaine line of skincare (also a hotel first), while La Table des Lumières restaurant has a vegetable-led menu with ingredients hand-plucked from their own farm nearby the palace. Le Bar de Philosophes features entirely French-made spirits which details the exact kilometers from the hotel they were created (that even includes a French gin, and a rum from Martinique). Plus, its wine list is again, totally French. Rooms have meditation machines, weighted blankets, and philosophy journals for your own inner enlightenment. The hotel has a zero plastic policy and multiple sustainable initiatives. Outside the front door, you’re a short walk from the city’s antique quarter which features the petit version of Marché aux Puces (with much lower prices—think drop a zero! We love Delphine for vintage designer). After your shopping, grab a bite steps away at the outdoor food market brimming with vegetables, cheeses and a selection of take-away from the region, then, if it’s Sunday, head over to Carrés Saint-Louis for the craft market.

An Athenian Hotel with Views of Ancient and Modern Art

The Dolli

Why Now? Athens is slowly becoming the NEW center of art culture in Europe, and The Dolli is at the heart of that evolution with its ever-evolving art collection.

The Dolli, Athens’ newest maison-hôtel, has proven that Athens is more than just a pass-through to the islands. The city’s new icon, the Dolli is a one-of-a-kind hôtel, just steps from the Acropolis. It’s historic—a 1925 building designed by Andreas Kriezis, the architect behind the Parliament in Athens’ Syntagma Square. It’s food-focused—the Dolli’s rooftop restaurant is a gastronomic heaven with a new Greek menu, where guests savor generations-old recipes, alongside mesmerizing, unobstructed views of the Parthenon, the Ancient and Roman Agoras, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Tower of the Winds, the Temple of Hephaestus, and Philopappos Hill, among other ancient wonders. And it’s Insta-worthy—the Dolli’s infinity pool makes it seem as if you could swim to the Acropolis. Although, of course, you’re welcome to simply lounge on the even-better-this-season pool deck itself: the magical spot just received a seasonal refresh and a new menu with cocktails and little surprises. Indoors, original pieces from Jean Cocteau, and whimsical works by François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne and Alexander Calder share the space with 18th-century antiques, custom-made furniture and objects from the finest contemporary designers such as Pierre Augustin Rose and Seung Jin Yang, as well as a collection of ancient Greek ceramics on display. More than just a hotel, the Dolli is an artistic universe where creativity flourishes, constantly welcoming new pieces in its wonderland.

An Icon Gets Even More Memorable

Hotel Grande Bretagne

2024 marked the 150th Anniversary of this iconic Athenian establishment. Across the last 100+ years, the facade of Hotel Grande Bretagne has been witness to critical moments in history: GB (as those “in the know” so lovingly call the hotel) hosted events for both of Athens’ modern Olympics (1896 and 2004); Winston Churchill stayed while fighting the good fight in 1944; Maria Callas resided there while performing Norma in 1960; and it was the site of key meetings when Greece entered the European Union, to name but a few highlights. Toast this momentous anniversary with a drink at Alexander’s Lounge as the hotel enters the next 150 exciting years. The legendary GB Roof Garden Restaurant recently underwent extensive renovations, offering guests a brand-new experience of the same breathtakingly unobstructed view of the Acropolis.

New Beach Resto in Sifnos

Verina Sifnos

Paralia is open in Sifnos! Housed in a former pottery factory, the building was restored by the brainchild team behind the island’s beloved Verina Astra hotel and Bostani Bar and Restaurant. “It’s a nostalgic throwback to the innocence of our childhood summers,” said Isidora Chandeli, general manager of the Verina Group. Located on Kamares Beach, the relaxed ambience of Paralia combines references from traditional Greek summer with striped deck chairs one might find along the French Riviera, yet with an unfussed vibe of 80’s surf culture. A canteen style eatery, Paralia melds the food truck with the beach as visitors order their own food at Paralia’s counter, and wait until their name is called. “The whole feel is very egalitarian and easy. It’s as summer should be,” said Chandeli.

The In-the-Know Island

Syros, Greece (the destination)

Syros is the capital of Cycladic Islands, and yet it is often overlooked by travelers who opt for the road more traveled, namely Santorini, Mykonos and Paros. It’s their loss, because Syros has something for everyone: A collection of neoclassical mansions overlooking the ocean in the capital of Ermoupolis. A whitewashed Cycladic village at the top of a hill in Ano Syro. A theater that is a miniature of La Scala. And more Cycladic beaches and boat-to-table restaurants than you could visit in a lifetime of vacations. With several new hotels added this year and in 2025, Syros is rapidly becoming a popular Greek destination. But act fast and you can still get here before everyone else does.

Fun fact about the island: Syros is home to the world’s FIRST mass-produced electric car built in the 1970s! Decades before Elon Musk’s Tesla, the Enfield 8000, built at Neorio, Syros, was the brainchild of the UK-based Greek millionaire Giannis Goulandris. Further proof that Syros is an island of invention and relaxation.

CARIBBEAN & LATIN AMERICA

The Private-Island Escape

Moskito Island Estates, BVI

NEW! Cape Stout estate debuts July 2024.

Moskito Island, in the British Virgin Islands, is a billionaires’ playground, a private paradise spanning 125 acres, surrounded by turquoise waters, insta-worthy sunsets, and ultra-luxe, all-inclusive “house charters,” accommodating up to 20 guests. Each estate is gorgeous and unique, reflecting the personality of its owner, but the latest entry, Cape Stout, is the finest jewel in this crown, architecturally speaking.

Situated on the very tip of Moskito island, Cape Stout is a six-building estate designed to maximize both sunset and sunrise views, and to reflect the dramatic, oceanfront landscape. The expansive main pool fans out to infinity edges on both the north and west sides, echoing the gorge in the adjacent cliff face. A network of terraces invites visitors to stop and watch the waves crashing against the boulders, while steps made of Ipe hardwood and flagstone form a path down to secluded, sandy Honeymoon Beach. And in the HQ, the social hub of the property, a canal-like pool winds its way through the ground floor, undulating through indoor and outdoor spaces.

The interior design is just as breathtaking, and carefully considered, as the architecture. A 60-foot wall mural by Judith Belzer runs alongside the canal pool, with swirling strokes that reference the dynamic form of the boulders and rock formations of the Stout peninsula. Decorative screens capture the tropical island breezes, while softening the sun’s glare to a warm glow, offering privacy and shade, reflecting the Moorish and Mediterranean styles found on the islands. These Caribbean architectural influences are visible in the masonry walls and geometric timber pyramid roofs, which, together with the cascading exterior staircases, harmonize beautifully with the island’s rugged cliffside descending to the sea. Inside and out, the Cape Stout design team had one theme as their guiding principle: Creating the perfect place for people to celebrate together.

Livin’ La Vida Blue Zone

El Mangroove, Costa Rica

Located on 17 acres of beachfront forest within the Blue Zone of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula on the Gulf of Papagayo, sits the 121-suite El Mangroove, Autograph Collection, the gateway to an unforgettable Costa Rican experience, where natural beauty meets barefoot luxury and sustainability. Through the hotel’s own private tour desk, Azul, adventure travelers can arrange private excursions, water sports and ocean adventures, including an expedition to the UNESCO-designated World Heritage site, Santa Rosa National Park. Established in 1971, the near 100,000-acre park protects Central America’s largest remaining section of tropical dry forest, as well as several turtle species, including the nesting Olive Ridley. Santa Rosa National Park is also famous for its great historical significance. Costa Rica has been invaded three times by foreign armies, and every time, the would-be invaders were defeated within Santa Rosa National Park’s current boundaries. Santa Rosa is the only Protected Wild Area in Costa Rica that has a historical museum within its territory. This spiritual heart of Costa Rica couldn’t be easiesr to get to; El Mangroove is just a 20-minute drive from Liberia International Airport (LIR) in one direction and the artsy and bustling town of El Coco, known for its authentic Costa Rican charm.

A Relaxed Vacation That Improves Your Health—And Your Destination

Punta Islita, Costa Rica

Situated in the Guanacaste Province on the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the world’s only designated Blue Zones, Punta Islita, Autograph Collection, celebrates the Blue Zone lifestyle by bringing its core principles to guests and supporting the local community that developed them in the first place. Since opening its doors in 1994, the Hotel Punta Islita set the standard in integrating human and planetary well-being into business. Surrounded by endless ocean, exuberant tropical forests and picturesque communities, there’s no better place to enjoy a day of hiking, monkey safaris, art projects or traditional Costa Rican cooking lessons. You’ll find unrivaled access to the Wild Scarlet Macaw Reserve, the Camaronal Sea Turtle Refuge, and nearby beach towns like Carrillo and Samara. The hotel’s Permaculture Farm supplies 100% of its produce, supports local farmers, and educates guests on sustainable farming practices, contributing to food sovereignty and community well-being. Tis an incredible program where the hotel buys the seeds to give to the farmers who then grow the produce to sell back to the hotel for use in its kitchens. Talk about a rewarding eco-cycle! Additional immersive experiences include artisan workshops with local artists and craftsmen, participation in traditional culinary practices and heritage festivals, and enriching involvement in community art projects and social activities through Casa Museo, enriching both guests and the local culture. In short, Punta Islita offers transformative travel experiences that stay with guests long after they leave.

Cairo

My city…Where everything old is new again.

 Four Seasons Cairo

The new Egyptian Museum will be opening (finally), and celebrating the country’s past. And its present and future are visible everywhere in New Cairo, especially at Garden 8 (the hub of New Cairo), where retail pioneer Amir Fayo (the genius concept creator behind New York City’s Public Hotel) opened his second Cairo location of Maison 69 a couple years ago. Another landmark Cairo retail store in Garden 8 is Story, owned by Clair Seffeen a former buyer for Al Tayer who promotes Egyptian designers and runs a Master Class in fashion. Elsewhere Baky Hospitality Group is leading the gastronomy and drinks scene with its ever-expanding group of fine dining restaurants, and finally the Four Seasons Nile Plaza got its makeover (well a good portion of it, anyway)—courtesy of renowned French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon—and I can’t wait to sink into one of their suites along the Nile.
